PICTUS
Pictus is a program that saved me hours of opening PSDs in photoshop. It makes
Windows 7 display the thumbnails of PSD files, instead of the "PS" logo.




The image optimizer makes shrinking file sizes a lot easier. This particular site comes in
handy when you are making a youtube background, since it will almost always split your
file size in half.



The Microplaner Pixel Ruler comes is extremely useful when you are making web designs,
because in addition to simple mental math, you can easily put the guides on fractions of
the design.


GIMP is one of the best Image Manipulation Programs, standing right next
to photoshop. It has an interface almost exactly like photoshop, but requires
nearly half the power.



The Topaz Bundle is an extremely powerful set of photoshop plugins that maximize
its abilities. This bundle does come with a $299 price tag, and im sure all of you good
little emulators wont find other ways...



TinEye is an amazing website that will look through millions of images
to find duplicates and original versions. This isnt really helpful when it
comes to making work, but it helps when you are viewing someones
work that you have suspicions of whether or not they made it.


WhatTheFont
WhatTheFont is a really cool program that runs through the browser to
find the font used in logos (and other images). One bad thing is that most
of the fonts it ends up finding come with a price tag, but we all know
google is our friend.

PicturePush is a photo and video hosting service. You can upload everything
you have in the highest quality possible since there are truly no restrictions on
space and bandwidth (unlike other hosting sites).



MegaSWF is a great hosting service for flash files if you
are freelance, but dont need a site (where you can host
yourself) just yet. You can quickly upload examples for
clients or even personal use.

Answer:

Use the Pen tool (Make sure its set on Paths)
Then make a path all the way around the part of the stock you want.

When your done: right click > make selection

Then set:

Feath radius: 0.2

anti-aliased (checked)
